Valentin Povarchuk is Senior Counsel and advises Akrivis clients on key international trade compliance and enforcement matters. This includes advice on key compliance program protocol, sensitive inbound investment in the United States under CFIUS in critical sectors such as artificial intelligence (AI) and scarce minerals processing, as well as sensitive Foreign Direct Product (FDP) Rule and broad export control advisory and Entity List removal matters, as well as sanctions matters. He brings unique insight into trade matters having experience as in-house corporate counsel in two leading global technology companies as well as in major global law firms.

More broadly, Mr. Povarchuk has for over two decades advised clients on a wide range of matters, including export controls, economic sanctions, antiboycott, customs, antidumping and countervailing duty, and World Trade Organization (WTO) matters. Over the course of his career, he has worked with clients in a variety of sectors, including energy, oil & gas, aerospace, defense, manufacturing, and technology companies.

Mr. Povarchuk is a frequent speaker and author on export control, sanctions, and supply chain topics at national and international conferences and publications.

Mr. Povarchuk joined Akrivis from Seagate Technology, where he was Senior Corporate Counsel, Trade Compliance and Regulatory Affairs. He began his career at reputed law firms, including Steptoe & Johnson, McDermott Will & Emery LLP (now McDermott Will & Schulte), and Arent Fox LLP, and subsequently practiced as in-house trade compliance counsel at 3M Company.

He is a native Russian speaker and has a working proficiency in French.
